Meanwhile in Craigavon… new outlets supported in Lurgan
Two new businesses have sprung up in Lurgan, thanks to Craigavon Borough Council’s Meanwhile in Craigavon… scheme.
Aimed at getting new businesses into empty shops in the Borough, the first two keyholders have now occupied vacant shops in the town, with high hopes of booming business.
Local business man Robert Coleman has opened his Twice is Nice shop on Church Walk, selling gently used nursery and children’s goods, toys and designer children’s clothes.
Meanwhile, Mark Savage has opened his Floored Design Studio business on Queen Street and begins trading on March 25th.
Both businesses will benefit from FREE tenancy for up to four months to boost economic activity as part of the initiative, which is supported by local Chambers of Commerce and Groundwork NI.
A full year of business mentoring support from Insight Business Consulting is also part of the deal, as is a set-up grant of £500!
More units are still up for grabs in this second phase of the Meanwhile… scheme and potential tenants are being urged to get in touch!
Madeleine Kelly from Groundwork NI is encouraging other potential keyholders to come forward, saying; “Interest has been high across the borough after public meetings held before Christmas.

“We’re delighted to see the new businesses get started and begin trading but we can still offer help to other businesses, so I urge anyone with a plan that fits with the Meanwhile… scheme to come forward and apply.
“We want to help any type of business – a start-up, a social economy project, a community initiative or even an existing business keen to expand.
“A range of currently unused units of all sizes have been identified and we want to get these filled quickly, as we know it will boost job opportunities in the area and bring footfall to our town centres!”
Cllr Paul Duffy, Vice Chair of Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Committee, insists; “This scheme has the potential to deliver jobs and breathe new life into the economic activity of the Borough.
“I encourage anyone with a strong business idea to come forward and get the help on offer.
“Also, I’d like to wish the new businesses who have already taken advantage of the Meanwhile in Craigavon… initiative the best of luck for the future.”
